Winter Storm Recovery

Governor Bob McDonnell declared a state of emergency on Wednesday when heavy snow piled up across much of Virginia, particularly in western localities.
Some areas got well over a foot of snow with Augusta County registering 18 inches, followed by 17 inches in Rockingham. Charlottesville had nearly 10 inches.
By late Wednesday morning, more than 400,000 people were without power in Virginia.
BARC officials say more than 3,600 BARC customers were still without power.

BARC crews are working in the following locations:

·         Effinger substation (various locations)
·         Village of Millboro and surrounding area
·         Bustleburg substation (various locations)
·         Hot Springs
·         South on Route 687
·         Falling Springs and Johnson’s Creek
·         Estaline substation (various locations)
·         Mill Creek
·         Deerfield
·         Green Valley
·         Ridge Road
·         Bratton’s Run
·         Williamsville to Headwaters
·         Shaw’s Ridge & Palo Alto
·         Lexington substation (various locations)
·         Cornwall substation (various locations)
·         Route 42

Because damage is widespread, and includes broken poles, wire and hardware, it is not possible to cite specific work locations. Crews will be working their way down BARC’s backbone circuits repairing known damage as well as unknown damage they encounter.
VDOT officials say all interstate and primary roads in the Shenandoah Valley are in clear condition. The secondary road system has icy patches and motorists should use caution on these roads and bridges and overpasses when traveling.
